The Vail Symposium Presents "Arts Inc." with Bill Ivey
Start: 5:30 pm
End: 8:00 pm

Bill Ivey, the former chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, assesses the current state of the arts in America. His recent book, Arts, Inc: How Greed and Neglect Have Destroyed Our Cultural Rights, “examines our emerging culture and how it may lead to a looming crisis. The expanding footprint of copyright, an unconstrained arts industry marketplace, and a government unwilling to engage culture as a serious arena for public policy have come together to undermine art, artistry and cultural heritage—the expressive life of America.”

Storytime with Children's Author, Sandy Fuller
Start: 10:00 am
End: 11:00 am

The Bookworm has invited the Edwards Elementary kindergarten class to a very special storytime with our very own Sandy Fuller. Sandy, children’s literary agent and Bookworm bookseller, helped to bring "The BLUES Go Birding" to life with illustrator Louise Schroeder and long-time educator, birder, and writer Carol L. Malnor.

With a unique combination of cartoon and realism, this new book introduces young children to the BLUES, five adventurous bluebird friends who will tickle the fancy of young children while introducing them to the birds of America and birdwatching as a delightful outdoor sport. In The BLUES Go Birding Across America children will laugh as they follow the travels of Bing, Lulu, Uno, Eggbert, and Sammi while they discover an amazing variety of birds. This book is an imaginative travelogue as well as a young person’s first bird book!

This event is FREE and open to kids ages 5 to 7!

Western artists, like western authors are many and varied. Claggett/Rey Gallery of Vail has been representing the finest in traditional American art for twenty years. Co-owner of the gallery, Bill Rey in collaboration with writer Don Hedgepeth, has produced a book about the life and works of Robert Lougheed, esteemed and celebrated artist of the American West.

If you don't know Don Hedgpeth yet, you must find a way to make it to Edwards for this event! This western historian (and humorist) has explored the lives of artists and historical figures such as Tom Lovell, Frederic Remmington and Howard Terpning and now, Robert Lougheed. A special thanks to our great friends at Claggett/Rey Gallery and Silver Oak winery. Your generosity is immeasurable!
